Introduction

The Brightline is a railway system that takes its passengers to and from metropolitan areas of Florida such as West Palm Beach, Ft.Lauderdale, and Miami. The Brightline is the nation's deadliest railway, with more than one death per month. This is more than all of the 821 railways in the US. Many of these deaths are a result of suicide or reckless behavior (ie. trying to beat the train or playing drinking games too close to the tracks, etc.).

Railway suicide does not only impact the families of the deceased but the passengers and staff on the train and the communities around the area of the incident.

Brightline as a company has an inadequate way of addressing suicide prevention and preventing reckless behavior. Despite the clear need for effective change, Brightline has not yet found an efficient way to address this issue. Brightline has partnered with Operation Lifesaver non-profit focused on creating railway safety education. Operation Lifesaver has an abundance of resources to address this issue, yet Brightline is not using these provided resources to their advantage. There currently is no research proving the reduction of suicides due to this partnership. What is needed is comprehensive legislation that focuses on public safety and suicide prevention. Patrol on common sites of suicides such as railway crossings and constructing of barriers around boarding areas are some of the solutions that will be proposed in the following paper.

In the problem section of the brief, I will discuss a brief history of the Brightline and assess the scope of this issue.

In the solution section, describe the components of the Suicide Prevention and Public Safety Act (SPPSA). Furthermore, I will address the effectiveness of current programs and compare them to what I propose. I will discuss the implementation of the SPPSA and the potential cost associated with this act.

  1. I think this topic overall is very interesting because of how unique it is. However, I think your thesis should be stronger. At the end of this intro, you provide the position and guiding points for your essay, which is the information a thesis needs to contain, but do so in a sort of paragraph form. I would try to reduce this down to a sentence or two while preserving as much of the content as you can, because that part is good!

Today

I find this whole situation strange. When I wake up, I realize that I am not in my dorm and I think I have all the time in the world. This fuels my procrastination. When I'm at home, I am not motivated to do work and when I am at school I find it easier to say focused. I love my family but they can be distracting at some points. My twin sister usually asks me to check her essays Art History or help her take pictures of her art projects. Sometimes, I'll be studying or trying to do homework and my Dad will turn on the news or watch a movie at full volume, and then I can't focus. I have also started to notice that I have easily irritable. I get annoyed or small things like when my mom touches my hair or when I have to get groceries from the supermarket. When I watch Netflix,  I think "oh my gosh they are not social distancing" but then I realize that there was a time in which this pandemic didn't exist. This helps me realize that I won't spend my whole...

Racing Towards Cleaner Waters

The clean water crisis in Mozambique This presentation raised awareness about the lack of accessto potable water in Mozambique. The presenters spoke about how hard it is for the people of Mozambique to attain clean water. They also spoke abou the lack of sanitation systems and bathrooms. This leads the people of Mozambique to deficate where they please. Having a bathroom is simply not a luxury that all the people of Mozambique have.  On average it takes about 30 minutes to walk to the nearest well to get clean water. Access to clean water in some cases surpasses the need for education for the children of Mozambique.  Transnational Organizations such as the UN and UNICEF aim to eliminate and mitigate the effects of this water crisis. The UN has a sustainibility goal to provide water to all of Mozambique by 2030.  Moreover, UNICEF  is currently working on constructing wells and bathrooms for the people of Mozambique. After the formal presentation, the speakers lai...
